We deliver clean water in bulk for a wide range of needs to construction sites. Water in construction comes in many forms. This includes drinking water and clean water.

Providing Clean Water in Bulk

Clean water in construction is also used for toilet flushing or hand washing in toilet and welfare blocks. In fact any water that is not going to be drunk, is classed by us as clean water.

All the clean water we supply is drawn from licensed authority hydrants. Fittings are used subject to disinfection to preserve the quality of the water.

Water stored in uncontrolled conditions, cannot be classed as drinking water. This is because temperature and the condition of storage vessels can impair the condition of the delivered payload. We deliver clean water for many uses, up to 30,000 litres per load in fact.

Providing Bulk Water for Water Filled Barriers
Water filled barriers are a solution for construction workers working in dangerous environments. This often involves fast-moving traffic, in particular motorways and highways. This is where water filled barriers come into play.

Short and medium-term projects especially can benefit greatly from the use of water filled barriers. The procedure is simple. Book a Larkins tanker with capacity for the amount of water you need. Our tankers start at 16,000 litres and go up to 30,000 litres capacity. If you are unsure what you require, talk to one of our sales team and they can advise you further.

Water Filling Barriers- Durable and Lightweight
When empty, the water filing barriers are lightweight (usually 35 kilos) and are easily deployed. When filled with water, you can multiply the weight by up to ten. This makes the barrier a formidable method of protecting those inside the work area.

Purpose of a Water Filling Barrier
In the case of a collision from a vehicle of up to 40mph, the barrier will absorb energy from the collision. In conjunction with speed restrictions on the road, this slows the vehicle down and preventing it from entering the work area.
The barriers are also used to line a roadside when there is a trench the other side. It guides vehicles in a particular direction.
When the project is finished, you send for us to come empty the barriers so they can be removed from service. Disposal of the water is done through authorised and licensed disposal facilities.

Water for Soakaway Testing / Percolation Test

Many might wonder what percolation test or a soakaway test is, so let us enlighten you.

What is a Percolation Test?
In construction terms a soakaway is the drain ability of the land in the locality. Important information often relevant to a new build project. There are two types of soakaway tests. There is a surface water soakaway test and a dirty water soakaway test.

A Soakaway in Clay Soil
Clay soil for example, will impede the progress of water soaking into the land, to filter back to the water table deep underground, whereas sandy soil will allow faster drainage.
In a nutshell, that’s it. If you’re about to build anything from houses to a new shopping complex, you need to know more about the land on which you are about to build. This is so you can determine the amount of drainage required. Drainage fields should not be constructed underneath built up areas. This includes near trees, car parks or buildings.

leaves the mathematics to the engineers who carry out the tests. We simply provide tanker loads of clean bulk water to allow the tests to take place in a smooth manner.
To the untrained eye, a typical test involves digging holes in strategic places. It requires filling them with predetermined amounts of water and then recording the time it takes for the water to “soak away”.

Bulk water for ballast

Construction has a lot of unusual, secret processes to complete their projects on time and on budget. One such a process we often find ourselves involved with, is water for ballast.

Imagine a construction project that’s out of town (no sewage network) and where many buildings are creating liquid waste, toilet flushes, wash basins emptying and the likes.

Firstly, big storage tanks prevent overflowing and to keep emptying cycles to a minimum.

These tanks are buried underground and in the main are made of plastic.

Water as Ballast

When burying such an item in wet concrete, you need to fill the tank with water as ballast. Why? Because if you don’t the lightweight plastic tank will float on the concrete.

Using water makes the burying process run smoothly. Once the concrete has set, pump out the water from the tank and you have an operational sewage tank ready to go into service.

Bulk Water for a Swimming Pool
Larkins have consummate experience with all manner of swimming pools, up to 600,000 litres in one case. Our tankers deliver up to 30,000 litres per load.

We send our tankers brim full of clean water drawn from licensed local authority hydrants. The tanker has a petrol driven pump to speed up the delivery of the payload. This is of course much more of a benefit than using a garden hose.
